December Greetings 2022

December 2022
Merry Christmas!  Happy Holidays!

Joyful Greetings to you and your loved ones in this season.

Well, I know some people here are happy that we will have snow for Christmas.  We just got done shovelling 15 to 20 inches of it off our driveway!  I could do without it, personally, but… if nothing else, it has provided me with a solid workout this morning. Lol.

It seems that I have come full circle at the end of this year.  I remember saying something about being kind to yourself as a New Year’s resolution at the beginning of the year, and my vlog this month touches on a similar topic.  Plus!  I cut my hair again, and so it is as short as it was in the January vlog. :D

As always, link down below for the vlog.

So far, I have no shows to tell you about for 2023.  I am keeping my word to myself about putting a few other things before the shows this year, and so I am working on a few new fun things.  I hope to have some news for you about this in January, so stay tuned!

Peace out!

May I be of assistance to you?

November Musings

November 2022

It is a foggy day here today on the West side of Canada, and Boo and I have been relegated to staying indoors for some time now. This is in part due to the cool weather, and in part because the art I am making is now all indoor art.  That is to say, mostly felting, but I have dipped my brush into the paint again for the first time in almost a year!

I have one more show this year, and I have to say that I wish I had more time to create more new works. But!  I also have to say that I am very pleased with some of them, to the point, even, that I told Darren I don’t want to sell them!

Oh! And that reminds me.  I have decided that for any piece that sells at my December show at the local eatery, Just Jakes, I am going to donate 15% to the local food bank.  Plus, I have made some cute little felted butterflies that I will give the food bank $ 10.00 for each one sold. I am pricing these at a very reasonable $ 30.00 each.

I am looking forward to hanging this show.  It will be my signal to step back and breathe for a bit. I want to create some art just for art’s sake, to evaluate what I feel is my best move going forward, and possibly pivot towards creating some passive income.  More on that going forward!

November’s Vlog is linked below, as usual.  This month I am offering you a look at a piece that is going up in December, plus my musings about the value of persistence.

Talk soon!

How can I be of assistance to you?

October 2022

I have so much to be thankful for this year.  Good health, some success and new connections with good people.  A new stove and new to us fridge...yay!  Plus the weather has been cooperating with me trying to get art made outside.  There is much more, and I hope you are all having similar reasons to be thankful, as well.

The beginning of a crotched basket on a table outside Whistler Starbucks.

We had a great getaway in September to Whistler, where we mostly just bummed around Whistler Village and drank coffee.  One thing, though, I got started on a new craft kick while we were there, too (see the picture above for the beginnings).  Thanks to Marilyn C. who got me started, I have now crocheted 2 and 1/2 baskets.  I can't believe how much I am enjoying this.  I have not crotched for at least 15 years. Lol.

Your Invite!

My second last show of the year, Beyond the Path, opens next week, and you are all invited to the Opening on Wednesday, Oct 12th at 2:30 pm.  Come by the  Cowichan Valley Arts Council’s Annex Gallery (2687 James St, Duncan, BC) to enjoy some great art and have a few appies on us.

In the meantime, I will be creating more wall-hung pieces (see below) for the Just Jakes show, and once the one below is finished, I have some crazy fun ideas for felted pieces in frames.  I can't wait to show you those.

And the Vlog!  Can't forget the vlog.  This month I have had some fun giving our dog, Boo a voice to share some of the changes she has experienced since she has come to be a part of our family. As always, the link is below.

And finally, Congratulations to Linda S. on winning the copper mobile as a new subscriber!  I have sent you an email, and I hope we can connect soon.

June is Beautiful...but Wet this Year!

June 2022

Superstition Iris

The gardens are starting to really look amazing here on the Island, but we are still mostly rainy and cool. I am not sure I have ever worn a sweater so much in June before!

I hope this finds you all happy and well.

The gardens are starting to really look amazing here on the Island, but we are still mostly rainy and cool. I am not sure I have ever worn a sweater so much in June before!

I am still going a bit crazy trying to get art made for my shows, especially as I have to work outside when I am working on my metal.  It may be time to string up the tarp again to circumvent the rain!  I have plans to make a pergola over my work area to keep the weather off of me, but I suspect it won't happen for a year or so yet.  So!  I just have to get the tarp going. LOL.

In any case, the Vlog this month is filled with some of the questions that have been floating around in my mind about my art, coaching, the garden, and life in general.  Link below.

If you have any questions for me, or topics that you would like to see covered on my vlog, I would love to hear from you. Please email me at brenda@blueseedstudio.com.

Easter is Here and I am hopping!

April 2022

The centre of my newest sculpture - Tranquility

Whew!

Spring is here, and I have been hopping like a bunny already.

Hello!  Happy Easter to you!  :D.

I can’t believe that we are already in April!  If you look below, you will see that I have got a lot of shows coming up and that has me in a bunnytail-spin (gotta milk the Easter jokes all I can!) to get a whole lot of work ready to show and sell.

I have completed the vlog that was to be shown in March, and that is linked below once again.  This time my theme is about ways to find joy, and really, if you watch the video, you will realize that for the most part, it can be a simple thing to do.  The visual part is a process video of me making parts of one of the pod sculptures I have been working on.

I am not sure how well the two – coaching and art making – will marry, and I appreciate feedback and thoughts on this as well.  If you have an idea, question, or something that you would like me to cover, please drop me a line.  I want the vlog to have value to my viewers, and the best way I can do that is if you let me know!  Thanks in advance.  Video below!

One thing that I know is that in the next few months, I plan (I hope God isn’t laughing) to make some shorter, simpler videos, as trying to get the art done, volunteering, getting ready for taxes, and so on leaves me pretty stressed out about also getting a video made!  Oh!  Also, we are going on holidays to Alberta in May…

This year is now fuller than my Easter Basket!

Currently, I am showing at the Rainforest Arts Gallery in Chemainus (9781 Willow Street, Chemainus, BC.)

This is the last month the group of people that I paint with, the Cherry Point Artists, have a little show up in the Cowichan Valley - Vancouver Island Regional Library (2687 James St, Duncan, BC).

April 22nd and 23rd, that same group will be putting on our annual art show and sale at St Peter's Church - 5800 Church Rd, Duncan, BC.

May 5th - 29th is the Cowichan Valley Arts Council's Annual Fine Art show (also at 2687 James St, Duncan, BC).

July 9th and 10th - I have been invited to participate in the annual Art on the Acreage Show put on by a group of hugely talented local artists.  Will send the address closer to that time.

July 16th and 17th - I am going to Parksville for the Studio Tour San Pareil 2022. Will send the address closer to that time.

I have applied to the Ladysmith yearly event, Arts on the Avenue, and will learn sometime this month whether I will be accepted.  It runs on August 28th.

In October, I will be sharing the Cowichan Valley Arts Council’s Annex Gallery (2687 James St, Duncan, BC) with 4 other artists for a couple of weeks.  More details as the time draws nearer.

March is for changing directions... The best laid plans and all that.

Work in Progress. One of the new pods I am working on.

One of the felted vessels I have decided to scrap from my pods. It might still be useful in another sculpture… :)

March 2022

Greetings from the left coast (as they say). :D.

In the last week, I have decided to take a few new directions.  I was working on two sculptures that I had planned to involve my felted vessels, that you may have seen on social media, but I was looking at them and they were just not right.  So I have eliminated the vessel parts in favour of simply felting the bases.

I have also been working on a vlog for a bit over 2 weeks now, and today, I just took a hard left to put out something that is so much simpler and closer to my heart. This video continues the "coaching" theme of the last two vlogs, and I apologize if you are wanting more of my art.  I am endeavouring to do a voice over of me making art next time so that you will get a bit of both.  I will also warn you that this video is more spiritual in theme.  If that is not something that floats your boat...well, I am sorry, but... following my heart over here.

The vlog (video log) is now live on Youtube. The link is to the left. It is a tad bit more serious than the last, and I invite you all into a meditation for peace.

I am looking for feedback and comments on this vlog, also.  If you have an idea, question, or something that you would like me to cover, please let me know.  I want the vlog to have value to my viewers, and the best way I can do that is if you let me know!  Thanks in advance.  Video link to the left!

Take this Joy! - Vlog #1 - Something I like about myself and being kinder to ourselves in the new year.

Hey there!

Glad to see you again. Happy New Year!!

This week as I was contemplating what to choose as a topic for my my New Year Vlog, it sort of fell into my lap as I listened to the radio and decided to use the mindfulness app on my watch

The idea of instead of making a New Year’s Resolution, which infers that we are not good enough, why don’t we instead search for something about ourselves that we like?

That is my challenge to you!

I would love it if you would like and subscribe to my YouTube channel. Also, leave me a comment on YouTube about the video, what type of content you would like to see, or if there are topics you would like me to cover.

And finally, here is to being kinder to ourselves this year!!!

Much love! <3 <3

I till talk to you soon, and in the meantime Take this Joy!!!
